db2 add container..

Hi i;m very new on DB2, there is things i still can't understand.

if you add container to tablespace using number of pages, how we calculate the pages to add to have the same container size.
eg.

Tablespace ID = 20
Name = PSAPPOOLI
Type = Database managed space
Contents = Any data
State = 0x0000
Detailed explanation:
Normal
Total pages = 1024000
Useable pages = 1023984
Used pages = 489272
Free pages = 534712
High water mark (pages) = 489272
Page size (bytes) = 4096
Extent size (pages) = 8
Prefetch size (pages) = 8
Number of containers = 2

the size of the container is
-rw------- 1 db2d01 dbd01adm 2097152000 Jul 17 10:01 PSAPPOOLI.container000

is the numpber of pages only total pages / #containers ? or we have to llok on the page size too ?

Thanks

If you want to see how the existing containers are defined (especially the the number of pages), use the Control Center, or the db2look command. See the Command Reference manual for how to use db2look and how to get the DDL for tablespaces.

Hi sorry, we are on AIX, and no COntrol Center installed, and we prefer to do it from CLI.

You can use the Control Center on your windows client connecting into the AIX server.

If you don't want to do that, the other part of my answer said to use db2look. RTFM.

db2 list tablespace containers for 20
or db2 list tablespaces show detail listed
1024000 pages for this tablespace (see top) = total pages
if just 1 container defined : container = 1024000 pages

"get snapshot for tablespaces on <your db alias>" will probably list all containers, with their respective sizes.

Here is what I think you should do. Send me you PayPal account information, and I will send you 50 cents (USD) so you can call your mother and tell her that you are not going to make it as a DBA.

You would use total_pages in the first output that you posted with.
