what permission should we se for /usr/opt/db2_08_xx directory for securing access ? we need to make sure by changing permission it shoud not start malefunctioning.

currely it shows it is owned by bin-bin and rwx ..
we wnat this to be owned by only specific dba account? can we do that ?
after making it owned by a specific Id , what pemissions should be set so it can work for any neww instance creation?

I wouldn't change any permisssions ... The files are not for manual editiing ... Only your db2 should be modifying them ...

I wouldn't be happy to have any of my scripts/applications dependent on the /var/db2 directory ... There is no gurantee the format will not change

Any reasons you want to change permissions ?
