db2 32 bits and 64 bits instances on same server

Hi Guys,

I'm planning to upgrade some of the biggest db2 instances to 64 bits to overcome memory limitation issues but I wonder if I can have both 32 bits and 64 bits instances running on the same server. I assume you can but the tricky point will be TSM clients. I believe a TSM 32 bits client won't work on a 64 bits db2 instance. Has anyone come accross to a similar situation?. If so what would be the best approach? Having two TSM clients would make the trick. Any ideas/advice would be highly appreciated. BTW we are running AIX 5.3 kernel 64 bits and db2 udb 32 bits Fixpak 12. Thanks.

Arrow Yes & No

You can hav both 32 and 64 bit instances side by side.

And actually I don't think the TSM client cares about the bit settings on the Instance - I seem to remember backing up DB's under a 64 bit instance on a 32 bit TSM - AND restoring them to new targets

But its very easy to check - just make the new instance an try backing a small DB up

You can just set environment variables DSMI_CONFIG,DSMI_LOG,DSMI_DIR=/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64 for the 64bit
