Performance and EXTSHM= ON

using db2 v8.2.3 abd aix5.2-06

In our production environment the EXTSHM is ON that inherited from version 7.2 and after migration we forgot to care about, I am worry because

I read a article that with EXTSHM=on will degrate the performance,

any idea and experienc to share with me that I can make desicion to turn off this varible or not.
