Committing FixPak installations

DB2 8.2
AIX 5.3

The instructions that I have and use to install FixPaks leave the new DB2 filesets in an Applied status as opposed to a Committed status. This is fine, especially since there was one occasion in which I had to remove the FixPak soon after the install of it. What I am confused about is that I have systems in which the DB2 filesets are Committed and I do not know what changed there status from Applied to Committed.

Anyone know what triggers this to happen?
Thanks.
