DB2 V7.2 to V8.1 Upgrade

Windows 2000. DB2 V7.2

What is the best way to upgrade DB2 version 7.2 on Windows 2000 to DB2 version 8.1 ?. I was thinking of 2 options but I don't know which one will be less painful.

I don't even know these options are possible.

Option1:

1- Backup all the databases.
2- Uninstall DB2 V7.2 completely.
3- Install DB2 V8.1 with the latest FP (14)
4- Restore all the databses.

Option2:

1- Backup all the databases.
2- Upgrade V7.2 to V8.1 with the latest FP(14)
3- If run into issues, uninstall/reinstall V7.2 and restore databases.

Any pointers ? Thanks.

(1) Optional but recommended: backup all databases
(2) Install V8
(3) Migrate instance and all databases
