tablespace containers

Hi guys
i have an SMS table space with 14 containers on it.and all these containers are on the same disk. because of this there are some performance issues. there is I/o contention goin on.so can i decrease the 14 containers to 1 container using the redirected restore.
the database is on DB2V8.2 fp5 --solaris.
any help would be appreciated.

This is not something I have done, but in looking at the redirected restore commands, it should be possible. I would recommend that you try it on a test system before you do a production system.

Where is the I/O contention? On disk controller? Changing to 1 container, i do not think, will improve much. Sometimes having DMS containers will help.

Redirected restore will do what you want, assuming that all containers really belong to the same table space.
