datastage implicit string to integer conversion

Hi all,

I hope this is the right spot to ask datastage 7.5.1A questions...

I was solving a key violation issue and discovered that datastage happily converts an alphanumeric string to integer, generating an integer even if there are non numeric characters in the string (for ex. '1INI' converts to 8102 and '2INI' converted to 2001).

I could not find any information on the logic behind this conversion. Does anyone know how Datastage converts non-numeric characters to numbers?

Thanks,

Peter
