Arrow Is this a Wise DR plan?

Folks,

Multi partition DB2 9.1 Fp2

Sub: DR plan / implementation

Question: Can we use DNS alias name for type 2 and type 4 connections?
What is the disadvantage ?

Please suggest some other ideas to do DR.
--> No Hardware level mirroring allowed ( less fund)
Data will be copied using ETL server for both primary and DR site.

If primary crashed.. all the users (using BO, Cognos, SAS) switched to DR site by altering DNS alias .. So .. NO changes to user.

Is it feasible proposal???

Please help.

Thanks,

If you would enlighten us on what "DR" stands for, we could actually share your thoughts. I know it as "Deutsche Reichsbahn".

We do a similar technique with the DNS names between primary and secondary servers.

We still have to restart Some apps and handle dns cache when we fail over.

Not sure if you looked at it, but HADR is pretty smooth for handling sync between 2 servers at database level and it also has some functionality for auto client reroute all though we use hadr we still do manual takeover so we have more low level control over the switchover.
