Matching Columns For A Index

Hi friends,

How can i know the matching columns in a index seeing the explain output.Suppose there is a index on C1,C2,C3 how can we know the MC(matching columns) that are matched for a predicate..Whether it is C1 or C2 or C1,C2???

Also how can we accurately calculate the index slice???
