Our company is planning to store the projects they have been creating for
years. The projects contain many different kinds of files (Adobe, Microsoft
Office e.t.c). The storage and the interface application should allow the
projects (Hundereds of Analysis documents also) to be reviewed, modified and
saved back in the same original format. Initial data will be around 1 TB and
expected to grow.

Is this something a DB2 Database can handle ?. What would be the
good Software-Hardware suggestion ? Software to allow the above mentioned modifications ?

A DB2 database could handle the data storage, but you would have to write a lot of programs around it. There are many other solutions already available.

MS Sharepoint would work. A less expensive product called Confluence (http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/) is probably just as good or maybe better in some respects (depending on your needs).

Thanks...................Maybe database is not a good idea to store these files since you have to export them to modify and import back after the modification. Also, need code to read them..............
