Question direct and indirect authority

hi all,
1.what is direct and indirect authority.
2.what difference does each make and where this difference can be felt?

"direct" are authorizations that were given to you as a user.
"indirect" are authorizations that you have based on your memberships to groups where the groups have certain authorizations.

well consider as an example,when i run the command 'db2 get authorizations' it shows:
Direct SYSADM authority = NO
InDirect SYSADM authority =YEs
and all other authorities are set to 'NO'.
in this case what all are the things i am allowed to perform.

Since you have SYSADM authority, you can do whatever SYSADM is allowed to do.

but stolze from where i got this indirect access.....while providing authorities it never ask u for direct or indirect kind of stuff....

maybe you are part of sysadm group defined for this database
