Do you want to start DB2 automatically on a home PC?!?

You may want to have a look at "db2iauto" utility. (Alternatively, you can write a small run-level script and put it under /etc/init.d or you could add the necessary steps to /etc/inittab)

Sir,

Thanks for your valuable advice. Still i have following doubts regarding db2
installation procedures.

1) I have tried to install db2 9.5 in windows environment they was no problem all DB2 database and gui base control are working fine.

2) Sir can you explain me more about "db2iauto" utility and any study materials to overcome this issues. Since I am newbee to db2 in can't write a small run-level script and put it under /etc/init.d or you could add the necessary steps to /etc/inittab).

Thanks & regards
vssk

"db2iauto" is described in the manual. Please look it up there and if you have some problems, come back with specific questions. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...v9r5/index.jsp

Using a run-level script is regular Linux stuff and not specific to DB2. You may want to read up on that at the usual resources. But I would ONLY resort to this approach if "db2iauto" doesn't work out.

I have DB2 V9.5 running on Fedora 9, and db2iauto does not seem to work properly. The change does show up in the envrionment variables (db2set -all) but does not actually do the autostart.

According to the manual, it only works on UNIX based systems. Sometimes when they say UNIX, they also mean to include Linux, but that may not be the case here (I don't know for sure).

Or it could be a problem with Fedora, and it may work fine with RH AS5, etc.

Edit: I saw this in the db2diag.log, so it may be a problem with an unsupported OS like Fedora 9:
Indeterminable operating system.

What is "db2fs" supposed to be doing and why are you using it?

db2fs is the GUI program that is "DB2 First Steps" and has an option to install the sample database (among other things).

Mr. Marcus / Stolze

---> DB2 V9.5 running on Fedora 9,

Can you please explain me in details what steps you have taken before/after installating db2 on Fedora 9.

----> "db2iauto"

what is the alternative to start db2 server auto start.

It is possible to run db2 9.5 in opensuse 11 home pc.
or it will work only on suse 10.1 or 10.2 versions.

I spent a couple minutes with Google and found the following, which may help you, too:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/DB2-HOWTO/fedora7.html
http://forums.opensuse.org/programmi...db2-9-5-a.html

DB2 V9.5 runs fine on my openSUSE 11 system here.

DB2 9.5 generally runs fine on Fedora 9. I still cannot get autostart to work with db2iauto or db2autostart commands, but that is the only problem so far.

Hi,
I use DB2 v9.5 on Ubuntu 8.04 and autostart doesn't work either. But I have figured out how to start int anyway. Wrote

More info can also be read from manual:
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/DB2-HOWTO/

There is autostart for DB2 on Ubuntu:
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork...8783&#14028783

Don't know if this is also true for openSuse. Try out.

By the way inittab is also not working in Ubuntu, because it is using upstart instead of inittab.

Regards,
Grofaty

Thanks for your valuable sugesstion. I had de-installed db2 9.5 and reinstalled it once again

./db2setup
db2inst1@linux-4tpo:/opt/ibm/db2/V9.5/bin> ./db2sampl

Starting the DB2 instance...
Creating database "SAMPLE"...
Connecting to database "SAMPLE"...
Creating tables and data in schema "DB2INST1"...
Creating tables with XML columns and XML data in schema "DB2INST1"...
Stopping the DB2 instance...
'db2sampl' processing complete.
db2inst1@linux-4tpo:/opt/ibm/db2/V9.5/bin>

---> For starting GUI based db2 which command i should use, opensuse 11 is no creating statup icon.

If you just need the Control Center, etc (not the install GUI), I would access it with a remote Windows Client. But I believe the program name in Linux is db2cc.
