System controller,watch dog

Hi ,

Please anyone define their functions db2

what does a watch dog and system controller actually do in DB2-This was a question i was asked at an interview.

on luw or mvs or i-series platform ??
watch dog is not a standard option on luw platform - maybe db2fmcd ?

I believe that WatchDog is a third party software tool for monitoring DB2 (and other db's like Oracle). It is not a part of DB2 or any other IBM product.
