Hello DB2 Experts,

We have a Production system that is currently using disc sync to a remote location. But to get the data mounted and function it'll take minimum 2 minutes.

We have DB2/AIX64 9.1.5, what would be the best way to have the Production and DR box sync with no downtime at all?

If failover time of 2 minutes does not meet your needs, I do not think there is anything else out there that will.

HADR coupled with a cluster manager to switch virtual IP addresses will work faster than 2 mintues, usually within 10-20 seconds. I would recommend near-sync mode in HADR.

The only issue is how long it takes for the cluster manager to detect a failure and issue the HADR takeover commands.

At one time about 2 years ago, IBM was strongly hinting that it was in the process of bying xkoto, but something happened and the deal fell through. We tried it at my company, and it scales well for read type queries, but does not work as well for heavy updates. And despite what they tell you, there is still a single point of failure on the load balancer (which has its own cluster/failover mechanism, but that failover is no better than HADR failover).
