Fast Communication Manager

Is FCM new for db2 version 9? I see this in my log at startup:

FUNCTION: DB2 UDB, fast comm manager, sqlkf_init_allocate_shared, probe:500
START : FCM infrastructure started
FCM running in non-shared mode; FCM parallelism degree: 1; comm protocol: TCP/IPv4

Can FCM be turned off? Is there any reason to turn it off?

Thanks

FCM is not new. It was there in V8.X as well in the ESE version.

FCM (fast comm manager) is relevant mainly in DPF environment which is used to communicate between different partition. Data-movement across partitions is being taken care of by FCM.

I am not sure why to turn off this in your system. Its required if its an ESE installation.

Thanks,
