You need to call IBM support for these types of error messages that are not documented in the manuals.

See APAR IY51918 at this URL: IBM - IY51918: "0x9000028C Timeout occured while calling a GCF" in db2diag.log.

The APAR says it was fixed in DB2 8.1 FP6.

mrluvdb2 is running V9.5, so I doubt that your link is of much help.

Here is how it helps - when you call IBM all you have to say is that you want IY51918 retrofitted into 9.5 and skip all the "diagnostic activities" that lvl2 likes to put you through before they relinquish control of your PMR and pass it on to those who can actually deal with it effectively. Once these symptoms have been accepted by IBM as an APAR, you no longer have to prove that this is a bug. Cheers!

I would say that the fact the error message appears in the diagnosis log shows that there is a bug. It is not a user error, it is an internal IBM error message.

As for skipping the diagnostic activities, that would be great if it worked, but I would not bet any money on it.

Actually, the fact that a message appears in diag log may mean a number of things, including nothing at all. This is especially true if you raise DIAGLEVEL to 4. There are a lot of informational messages as well as messages that no one, including DB2 developers, could explain. As for lvl2 avoidance techniques, yes - it is possible, one day I may write a book on that. Will include some examples from my IBM software development days

please try this:


db2fm -i <instance-name> -I /60

If the messages continue, set it to a higher value. If this doesn't help, consider opening a PMR
