Hi Guys

Recently i restored dbs created under 8.1 to 9.1.

I did not do instance migration nor did i install 9.1(ESE).

I already had 8.1(ESE) & 9.1 (ESE) installed,server instances created,up,running.

I created dbs under 8.1 & then using REDIRECT RESTORE ,restored them into 9.1 (by taking offline backup,copying the image files to new instance's home directory & running restore script).It worked for me.

What i want to know is can i call this as a migration?

Is there other way of doing this?

Whatever i have done is right way of doing it or not?

Basically, there are two ways to migrate from v8 to v9:

1) migrate instance and migrate db commands
2) create new instance under v9, restore v8 offline db image into v9 instance
