Hello,

I am using db2 v9.1 on windows.

I could not start or update the db2 instance; even for any db2 command it is giving the same following error:

SQL6031N Error in the db2nodes.cfg file at line number "0". Reason code "3".

I checked the file db2nodes.cfg file in ...\sqllib\db2\ directory & its permission, its all seems to be correct. Correct Hostname and node number is properly specified there.

I am not able to get the solution. For me its all seems to be fine.

Can you please help me or give some clue for finding the solution?

i tried to change it & make it look like:

0 PUCHP4225 0

but it doesn't worked.

it should be
nodenumber hostname computername logicalport netname resourcesetname
On Windows operating systems, these entries to the db2nodes.cfg are added by the db2ncrt or db2 add db partition commands. You should not add these lines directly or edit this file.
db2stop before making any changes
changes
db2start

That's good! It really add up value to my knowledge base.

Today it gave me the error in diag.log that the evaluation period has expired. I think this was the same reason which was causing the previous error of dbnodes.cfg file but was not showing exact error in log file before.

One more question from my side:

What if somebody changed the hostname of the OS. In that case should i update the same hostname in db2nodes.cfg file manually? or is there any other way around?

Those are not host names but network node names and should resolve to IP address, or you can use IP addresses to avoid any interaction with DNS.
