Access as front end for DB2

I'm sorry for the novice question, but I'm checking out the reality of information from our MIS department. They just love to blow smoke!

They say that Access shouldn't be used to edit data because it would likely corrupt the data (I think they blamed it on data locking). They say I would have to use a developer application, and implied I'm not smart enough for that.

Access as a front end to edit DB2 data...Yes, No, Good Idea, Bad Idea?

The reason I need into the raw data is because the web application MIS created and was well paid for, is a bunch of poop.
