mksysb errror while backing up db2 files

Hi All,
We are trying to copy /backup our OS aix 5.3.0 from one of the hard disk to a tape device using mksysd command through smitty, while performing this we get a error. It is unable to copy database related files eg all tablespace files/containers :having extension .dat, .cat etc the error says " unable to open the file . This is been done with root priviligee

error code o511-089 " sys call received a paramaeter that is not valid.

and why would you ever want to back up DB2 files outside of DB2?
