silent "migrate existing DB2" of a DB2 run time client

We need to upgrade several Window desktops to DB2 Runtime Client to V9.5. I've been looking at the silent install with a response file, but it seems to me that it is for machines that don't have an existing DB2. The problem is, we have machines with V8 DB2 RTCL and they may have different database connections configured on them. Is there a way to push out a silent upgrade to "work with the existing" DB2 and upgrade the V8 DB2 RTCL (and do the migrate instance as windows does for you) from a script? I use the "work with existing" terminology because the GUI allows it. I don't want end user computing to have to back up db2 configs, uninstall, reinstall, and restore db2 configs if there's a better way.
