What is purpose of db2wlmd process?

Hi,
using DB2 v9.5 fp2 on Linux I used db2top utility to monitor which DB2 process consumes max. cpu time. Utility shows that there is "db2wlmd" application that consumes the most CPU.

What is this process for and is there any way I can turn it off? Is this process turned on because of "self memory tuning"?
Regards
