backup - restore on cross platforms

Hi guys,

I just wanted to know whether we can take a backup in Windows and then restore the image in Linux.
Windows XP with DB2 V 8.2
Linux with DB2 V9.1

No, you can't. Use db2look and db2move.

Have a look at the manual for the BACKUP and RESTORE commands. It describes which combinations are possible. (As Nick says, your's isn't.)

Yes we can.

Make an offline non-compressed backup on windows and do a redirected restore on linux. Should work if they both use the same CPU architecture.

Have you yourself tested this up ....as i have read in a number of articles about db2look/move approach for this case.

No, you can't. Restoring a backup taken on DB2 V8 for Windows on a Linux V9.1 system won't work because DB2 V9.1 doesn't support that: Backup and restore operations between different operating systems and hardware platforms And this hasn't changed yet in more recent DB2 versions as Rahul mentioned.
