when we take a backup of the database the backup file has instance as an owner. it does not permit other users to do any operations on it (we want ops to compress the backup file). manually we can logon as an instance owner and change the backup file permission. but ops should not have access to instance userid and it all has to be automated (e.g. ops run script which takes a backup and compresses the backup file).

any way to fix it? thanks in advance

Why not have db2 compress the backup when it is created?

we thought abt it but backup with compress takes much longer. when we do offline backup and than compress, db is availalbe right away once backup process ends.

Once DB2 has completed the backup, it is basically an OS issue on compressing it.

Backup file permissions changed starting with v9.5. I believe it was done for security reason since the information in the image could be parsed with a hex editor. Your backup script can modify permissions on the image.

no it can not. the message is:
The file access permissions do not allow the specified action.

another reason we want to use aix compress it makes backup file 10 times smaller vs. db2 backup compress which makes backup file only 4 times smaller.
