DB2 upgrade v8.2 to v9.7 fp 3a

Hello
our current system is
DB2 V8.2 FP 12 on Windows 2003 32bit

The new system will be (Seperate sever)
DB2 V9.7 FP3 on Windows 2008 64bit

I am planning to test my migration approch on the new system. The plan is

1. Save the db and dbm cfg details from current system.
2. Take offline backup from current system
3. Create a instance and the database on the new system
4. Apply the fixpack 3a and upgrade the instance.
5. Restore v8.2 backup to the new system . The restore will be upgrad the db to V9.7 automaticaly.

So, I wish to ask two questions.
1. are the above steps are correct ?

2. After my test, I will do the real migration in the following weekend.
so, do I need to do the all steps from 1 to 5 again ?
Or If I restore the current v8.2 backup is fine ?
Do I need to appy fixpack again ?

Please advise.

Thanks, Valan

You can restore current 8.2 backup. No need to apply fixpack again.

Do it this way:

Setup new server:

1) Install directly from 9.7 FP3a (no need to install GA then apply FP) and create instance
2) Copy DBM CFG from old system to new system - Since this is 64 bit, you probably have more memory so some items can change - keep this in mind

Test:
1) Offline backup 8.2 DB
2) Restore image to new server
3) Adjust DB CFG for 64 bit and V9.7, do not forget about bufferpools

Go Live: Repeat steps for Test.

On WIndows each Fixpack is a complete DB2 with Installer! So you can run the db2setup.exe from FP3a. The GA DVD includes the license files. These are missing in the Fixpack, so you need to install them afterwards (db2licm -a LICFILE).
