Data encryption AUTHENTICATION

Hi ,
I want to check something about the authentication in our db2 system (v8.2).

Before i will do any change , i would like to know what is the effect of changing the authentication type to data_encryption in the db2 server .

Are the clients still connect without any change ?
Is the performance hit ?
