Restore from 6 node to 8 node database...

Is there a way in DB2 9.7 UDB to restore from a 6 node multipartition backup into a new 8 node multipartition database?

I don't believe so. You can create a 6-node partition group and do restore, and then add new partitions, and then rebalance.

As Marcus mentioned, restore into a 6-node and then add new partitions/redistribute. You can find an example here
