Do you need DAS if not using GUI tools? Any way to tell if DAS is being used? Not started or stopped, but used by someone/something? Capture "list applications" and look for some connection from DAS?

The Admin Server is only used by certain functions in the Control Center. Both the Control Center and DAS have been depricated.
