I'm experiancing an error while attempting to install DB2 V8.1 in Red Hat Linux Advance Server release 2.1 AS (Pensacola). The OS release vesion is 2.4.9-e.3

The computer that I'm trying to install is a Compaq i686.

After comming to the end of the installation it gives the following error.
DBI1282E The database manager configuration files could not be merged.

This was installed through the root user. I followed the quick beginners guide from IBM and did all it said prior to the installation. Please help me on this.

The only thing I can suggest is you check the IBM website to make sure that it is a supported version of the OS. Unless it is specifically supported by IBM, it probably has some known problems with DB2 (like RH9).

The IBM quick biginners says that it is supported in Red Hat 2.4.x. There was another thread in the forum regarding the same problem but that was on DB2 v7 and a different senario.

Could this be a permission issue at the OS level?

Looks like maybe you need kernel 2.4.9-e16.

A friend of mine have installed DB2 in a linux kernel version I have mensioned above and it works properly. But it is not an x86 architecture. I reffered the error number in IBM support and did what it recommends to do, such as altering the access rights of "/dev/null" and also giving write privilages to "tmp" folder.

Still the same error exists. The other thing I noticed is that there are no db2 services running( using the command ps -fu) in the OS.
