Re: What goes with what ?

Hi,

it is my understanding that configurations like these are not supported by IBM, which doesn't necessarily mean they won't work. I miserably failed to connect to a vs. 7 database from a version 8 client about half a year ago.

Basically, IBM requires you to upgrade your server first, then gateways, only then your clients.

There is an exemption to this rule: IBM supports UDB vs. 8 clients to connect (via DB2 Connect) to host databases in version 7.

Re: What goes with what ?

Nope.

I would file a PMR with DB2 support and ask them.

It's advisable to be at the latest fixpak level on your downlevel version (version 7 on the server).

Re: What goes with what ?

Yes it possible to connect to an older version of DB2 using the DB2 connect 8. First you will need to make sure that you have the Fix pack 3 is installed for the DB2 connect 8.1.

So, First you will need to catalog all the DB2 subsystems on you local machine. You might be able to get these information from your mainframce technical people. Then, you will need to go the windows Control panel, Administrative tool, and then open the Data Sources (ODBC). Select the System DSN Tab and then you will be able to add all the DB2 subsytems that you have cataloged earlier.

Now, you should be able to access the DB2 tables .

Hope it helps
