Question DB recovery

We perform i think a "version" backup by stopping the databases and performing a full filesystem backup. We do not use the db2backup command but the process works when we need to recover the system.

However we now need to be able to perform a point in time recovery using archive logs. Do we now need to use the db2backup command for the full backup or can we still use the cold filesystem backup.

We would hope to restore using the filesystem backup then restore the archive logs and perfrom a roll forward. Is this possible or do we have to now use the db2backup command in place of the cold backup. The reason we have not used the db2backup command till now is that the cost of the Veritas DB2 module (for writing direct to tapes) for our system is going cost a lot of money.

Thanks

Re: DB recovery

I do not know about Veritas DB2 Module ...

But, restoring a db2 database using a filesystem backup is not supported ... Nor can it be used for roll forward ...

You can backup to a disk and then copy the image to the tape for future use ...

You are at a risk if you contine using filesystem level backup
