Can threads be created in procedures?

On an iSeries(v5.2) I would like to call a procedure that returns some results but I do not want to wait for for longer running statements issued from the same procedure to finish before returning to the calling application(net.data). Can I instruct DB2 to run these processes in separate threads (even if they have to be in separate procedures). Does anyone know if this is even possible?
