Does db2 have a 'hot-standy' feature like Oracle?

To the best of my knowledgge, at this moment, the answer is No .. You can implement hot-standby configs using the some HA technique, say, HACMP, Sun Clustering, Vertias Clustering etc ..

But the next release DB2 , DB2 Stinger, is expected to provide this feature ... From various people, who have close contacts with Toronto, I understand that this release will be available in the last quarter of this year ...

db2inidb - Initialize a Mirrored Database Command

Initializes a mirrored database in a split mirror environment. The mirrored database can be initialized as a clone of the primary database, placed in roll forward pending state, or used as a backup image to restore the primary database. This command can only be run against a split mirror database, and it must be run before the split mirror can be used.


Command syntax

>>-db2inidb--database_alias--AS--+-SNAPSHOT-+------------------->
+-STANDBY--+
'-MIRROR---'

>--+----------------------------+------------------------------><
'-RELOCATE USING--configFile-'



Command parameters

database_alias
Specifies the alias of the database to be initialized.
SNAPSHOT
Specifies that the mirrored database will be initialized as a clone of the primary database.
STANDBY
Specifies that the database will be placed in roll forward pending state.

Note:
New logs from the primary database can be fetched and applied to the standby database. The standby database can then be used in place of the primary database if it goes down.
MIRROR
Specifies that the mirrored database is to be used as a backup image which can be used to restore the primary database. |
RELOCATE USING configFile
Specifies that the database files are to be relocated based on the information listed in the configuration file prior to initializing the database as a snapshot, standby or mirror.
