how to read log files

hi there:
i want to read and analyze the db2's log files online. and i heard that there are some apis can do this work. can anymore give me a hand? plus, who know the structure of log file's content?

...and that's the way also on Z/OS envinroment. But there are some 3rd party products, that could do the trick. For instance, I think BMC has one(Log Analyzer?).
