We are forming a telecommuting center for software development.

How good is it to use development software on rental from Application Service Providers (ASPs)- particularly Visual C++, as well as Web development tools (JSP, ASP, PHP, Web databases etc)?

Teleworking developers would remotely do coding, testing, debugging, file storage/update on high-speed link to ASP with the rental software. The goal is to have access to current software versions, yet keep down development costs to a legal minimum, although control of development environment & program file security would be a concern, as commented by others.

Another way to put it : what ASPs could we try to work with, under such conditions?
