big numbers in ODBC

how to select big numbers (e.g. DB2 DECIMAL) with ODBC ? the ODBC Numeric Datatype does not work, but even if it worked, it cannot hold very long numbers. double is too small. for example numbers with 30 or more digits.
any experience ?
