best personal DB

I need to develop a simple database application, I thought of using DBF or MDB files to store data but then I decided to ask the experts because they know better..

what do you think?

Access if you have it...if not then, MySQL or PostgreSQL...they're both free.

regarding mySQL, do have to install the server as well on the client PC just for a simple application, may be a phone book program for example?


what about PostgreSQL? can have more informtion from someone who used it?
