Error [22018] Ardent ][UniData ODBC Driver][IBM][SQL Client]Non-numeric data was foun

Using Visual Studio to access views of Unidata database - set up using VSG.

When SELECTING fields, if a date field is blank the above error returns.

Has anybody experienced this problem and, if so, do you have a solution?
