Viewing special spanish/french data in dbaccess (unix)

Dear All,

There are some special character in spanish/french which when transferred to unix gets corrupted. Can we take care of these special characters. These are part of labels which i need to insert in my table.
Eg.
The word l'hôtel in spanish/french gets transferred as l'h\223tel in unix.
I have tried to ftp it in both (ansi & binary) mode but no luck. Is there any settings to be done to handle these special characters.
