Logical logs

IBM Informix has all documentations available online. It is even searchable. As for your question, you will find the answer from IBM's online documentation HERE

the physical log´s function is save a page´s image before its alteration, with the purpose of fast the recovery process if the server bring down, avoid corruptions.
