I'm a newby to Informix. Can anyone tell me what i need to do to convert a UNIX Informix installation to a Windows Infomix installation. I was provided a tar file and extracted it with Cygwin. We go to import it and and it doesn't seem to work. Do we need to convert the UNIX format to a Windows format. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Once you have informix installed on Windows, take a dbexport of informix db (UNIX) and import it on windows. It should work.

If the tar file contains the software you will not be able to install.

If it contains the database then you will need the Informix server for the Windows platform installed then you can use dbimport.

The binary installation of Informix for Windows is not the same for Linux.
If you want to convert a a Informix database from Linux to Windows:
1) On Linux machine, export all data to flat file (text file) with dbexport or unload or HPL.
2) Get with IBM Support (if you have support) the binary of Informix instalation for Windows.
3) Install the Informix for Windows ,
4) Load the database with dbimport or load or HPL.
