What performance benefits brings seperate indexes from their tables?
I mean, putting indexes into different dbspaces as tables (non fragmented).

If the two dbspaces are on seperate physical disks then you have two sets of hardware compared to at the moment.

By improving the disk subsystem and say moving to fragmented indices update statistics can be improved dramatically.

I am sure others far more experienced than I could give many more reasons.
