We're running IDS 9.21 on Solaris. When I do a level 0 backup using ontape, and verify it with archecker, it complains there are 143 missing pages in 1 table. yet when I run oncheck -cD on that table, it finds no problems. Why is there this inconsistency?

First, Execute a full and complete oncheck.

Where you send your backup? Tape? if your answer is yes... try send to disk and execute the archecker . I already have similar problem with tapes....
