I have a server which has two production instances.Is it possible in full backup those two prod instances can backed up to a single tape.

am in need to setup a script that runs the level 0's for both databases to disk and then a script that runs at a later moment and writes both backups to tape (one tape), would that be an option?

I don´t think there is a way to backup independent servers with only a command. "ontape" command is the low level command to copy data from informix server. I realy think the only way for you to do that is the way you said, backup to a file then use tar for exemple to put it on a tape.
