Slow Connect Time

All,

I'm running Informix V. 10.xx, I know I know upgrade. In fact a new IBM server has been quoted.

A problem arose about a week ago where it randomly takes about 3-7 seconds to establish a connection the the DB engine. Once connected the selects all run fast without latency...as usual.

This connection latency occurs with ODBC connections as well as telnet dbaccess connections, even from the console.

There are no listenerr thread errors, and user usage has not increased.
The system has been running for about six years w/o performance issues.
No recent changes have been made to the system.

The system is a IBM 550 running AIX V5.

Thanks in advance for you time.
Steve

Hi

Have you checked your connexions with onstat -g ntd ?
check if any connexion rejected or queue exceed.

Also check how your network is behaving globally. the nmon utility would help in this case.

This also can be a hardware issue with your network board.

Hope this helps
Eric

Slow Connect time.

Thanks for your response.

Your network assumption was correct. Our new DNS server was not resolving correctly.

Thanks!

that's cool!

In any case, it is always good to have a DBSERVERALIAS running on onipcshm protocol. At least it gives you access from the local machine even if you have network issues, therefore helping greatly in the troubleshooting process.

All the best
Eric
