Where to find Last Backup details ??
|
|
Hello All,
Can some one help me find info about most recent backup whether success or failure ?
I really don't know what backup method is being used; but is there a way to find alert log entries indicating a failure or success ??
Please show me an example.
Regards

Hi
look in the informix log file, and search for messages like this
Code:
2011-06-14 14:27:13 Level 0 Archive started on rootdbs, data01, data02
2011-06-14 14:28:14 Archive on rootdbs, data01, data02 Completed.
As per the backup methode, you have the choice between ontape and onbar.
You will find clues of which is being used by looking at the $ONCONFIG file.
* If the TAPEDEV parameter is filled with an existing device name, except /dev/null, chances are that the method used is ontape.
* look at the file named by the BAR_ACT_LOG parameter: if you see activity with relevant datetimes, and explicit events, you can say that onbar is used.
Hope this helps
Eric

Mr Eric,
Thanks for your help, glad that I have written a function to help one of my co-worker dba.
This place is using onbar via netbackup. I wanted to cover other possibility - ontape.
Is this possible to find any activity log file for ontape. Or can you sum up few lines in such log file ?
Best Regards

BTW,
My Message log does not have the date part as you indicated. That is making it hard to process.

Mr DBFinder :-)
Could you post your informix log file ( value of MSGPATH in your $ONCONFIG file) So I can take a look at it?
If too big, this can be via ftp.
By the way, what version of IDS do you run?
Cheers
Eric

Ok,
with ontape, the only info you'll have are the lines timestamped 11:30:29 and 11:30:29
( archive started and archive completed ).
If errors occur, you should see them with ERROR and archive in the string
If you don't have the "Archive.*Completed' regexp, you backed has not finished.
Regarding the date thing, I have my own msgpath parser that builds the complete timestamp ( yyyy-mm-dd HH:MM S ) :-). It is written in Perl

By the way again,
did you test the 11.70 Innovator-C Edition ( xC4 latest release ), which
is a free edition for production environment ?
You will be limited to 4 CPU VPs and 2Gb of shared memory, but this can help...
No chunk size limits.
You can find it here:
You can even download the Ultimate Edition ( no limits at all, except for a period of 30 days I think).
Maaaany new functionality, general perf enhancement by 30% or more, a really beautiful product!
And candidate to install the Informix Warehouse Accelerator too...

Yes I have downloaded it, but did not install it yet,
Is there a simple way to connect via remote client. DB2 client is very easy to use.
