set explain on

Does setting of 'SET EXPLAIN ON' in 4GL / EC drastically affect the performance?

One of our programs with 'SET EXPLAIN ON' runs for 30 mins,
with 'SET EXPLAIN OFF' runs for just 20 secs.

It effects ...
explain on for diagnostics the queries at a time not all the times
