remote access to an informix database

Hi, I have a very basic question: what should I do to access from a PC an Informix database running on an HP-UX server? I'm about to write a Delphi database application and I already have some experience on using ODBC data sources. What software components should be installed both on the HP-UX server and on the PC? I know there are two ways to access Informix databases - via ODBC and via so called native drivers. Please, help.

Download the I-Connect product (for free) from the
following site:

http://www-3.ibm.com/software/data/i.../evaluate.html

After installing the product you need to configure your
connection thru the included 'setnet32' program.
Before doing this you should read the manual(s) for further
assistance:

Hi

You're correct in your assumption but typically Native Drivers and ODBC tend to be the same thing. The approach mentioned in the previous post by Eric is the native connection. ODBC tends to come from a seperate ODBC vendor.

If you only require basic connectivity, then the first approach fine in that provided you have the Informix Client installed on each machine, you can simple install I-Connect on each client machine without anything else on the Server.

If enhanced Security, group permissions or if Informix client is not installed on the Server, then the Client/Server approach should be more beneficial for you as there are more allowances taken into considerations for this.

For more info, you can contact technical.support@openlinksw.co.uk or via your response to this group
