I am working on a sco unix computer running informix 5.0. I also have a computer running windows XP on the same lan. I am not the administrator of the Unix computer, it is being run by the software vendor whose point of sale and accounting system we use. I often need custom information the vendor will not provide and would like to import the information into various windows apps using visual basic. I do understand visual basic but only understand the basics of unix. The software vendor doesn't like me touching his computer let alone quering his database.

How do I know if the odbc driver is installed on the informix database?

Are there any tricks to this whole process? I've accessed odbc data sources on the local computer but never from a unix computer and never over a network.
